STATEMENT BY THE AMBASSADOR OF RUSSIA,
ALEXANDER M. KADAKIN

September 16, 2008

It is not that I am reacting to the nervous, cynical and provocative invectives of the Georgian Ambassador in Stockholm but I would like to state the following.
The Ambassador, as a Christian, should be aware that in Orthodox tradition, on the 40th day we pay homage to and mourn the departed souls. God does not differentiate between them depending on their nationality or ethnic origin.
By placing flowers and lighting candles at the icon of the Holy Mother we also remembered all those Georgians who fell victim to the criminal and ferocious aggression of Tbilisi against the sleeping civilians of South Ossetia.
The Ambassador’s remarks are sacrilegious.

(This statement was made as a reply to the words of the Georgian Ambassador to Sweden who was quoted in Dagens Nyheter newspaper’s article on September 16)
